Lessons In The Wind

The cool autumn breeze
Blows gently through my hair
I stand out on the balcony
As at the world around me, I stare

I see the birds as they come together
For their flight to a warmer place
In their time of need they all unite
Together they run the race

My thoughts drift to the clouds in the sky
Some are big and others are small
So many different shapes and sizes
But I see perfection in them all

The leaves are changing as they always do
I watch them fall one by one to the Earth
How can something so close to death
Be as beautiful as a baby’s birth

I watch the children play in the yard
The laughter fills my soul with delight
They jump in the piles of fallen leaves
Such trivial things make their day so bright

We can learn a lot from the things we see
They are willing to teach us if we care
It’s not about the way we look or feel
It’s about the special moments we share
