Greener Grass

I took our love for granted
Until we broke our hearts in two
You went on with your life
I thought I’d found someone new
Just another family broken
One more statistic for the books
More words of venom spoken
It’s not as appealing as it looks

The grass looked so much greener
On someone else’s lawn
We didn’t know what we had
until after it was gone

What happened to the forever
We promised from the start
Our lives have been severed
Beginning with the heart
Maybe our faith was weak
It couldn’t stand the test of time
For happiness we did seek
But the mountains we did not climb

The grass looked so much greener
On someone else’s lawn
We didn’t know what we had
until after it was gone

I sit here alone in the dark
As you lay sleeping in the bed
I’m thankful for the spark
The fire wasn’t dead
We thought it was the end
But God wasn’t done
Our lives are on the mend
In fact, we’ve just begun

The grass looked so much greener
On someone else’s lawn
We didn’t know what we had
until after it was gone
